Course Overview
Manual handling injuries currently account for over a third of all injuries reported to the authorities each year. Whilst fatal handling injuries are unusual, on average 6% of all major injuries arise from handling activities. There is more absence as a result of injuries sustained during manual handling operations than from any other cause of accidents at work. While earlier legislation had concerned itself specifically with the maximum weight of a given load, it is now recognised that there are several other factors that are of equal significance and which must be taken into account when assessing the safety of a manual handling operation.
Course ContentUpon completion the delegates will have gained knowledge of:
- What is manual handling?
- Manual handling injuries.
- Causes of injuries.
- Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.
- Controls.
- Risk assessments in practice.
- HSE MAC assessments.
