Course Overview

Many people choose to take the NEBOSH Certificate as a first step in a career in health and safety. The overview of safety management issues provides a sound basis for more specialist study. On successful completion of the qualification, Holders of the NEBOSH National General Certificate are entitled to: Affiliate Membership (AIOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). The qualification also meets the academic requirements for Technical Membership (Tech IOSH) of IOSH with appropriate experience (See NEBOSH website). Associate Membership (AIIRSM) of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM). The National General Certificate is a level 3 qualification which means it is aimed at those with health and safety responsibilities, such as managers, supervisors and safety representatives. You will receive 68 hours of tutor contact time and it is also recommended by NEBOSH that you undertake a further 40 hours of private study time to help you familiarise yourself with the subject matter.

Course Content

The programme is split into two units further broken down into elements each of which as a set of intended learning outcomes. The units are:

Unit NG1 - Examination

1. Why we should manage workplace health and safety.
2. How health and safety management systems work and what they look like.
3. Managing risk.
4. Health and safety monitoring and measuring.
5. Physical and psychological health.
6. Musculoskeletal health.
7. Chemical and biological agents.
8. Workplace hazards and risk control.
9. Work equipment.
10. Fire.
11. Electricity.
